* From Health Canada: Due to the absence of gluten-like proteins, Canary seed could also be used as a gluten-free grain similar to teff, sorghum, amaranth, and buckwheat but it is inconclusive on whether Canary seed could pose a risk for wheat allergic individuals. Therefore, the label of Canary seed and foods containing Canary seed as an ingredient would be required to carry a statement such as "May not be suitable for people with wheat allergy". As Canary seed itself is not a priority allergen, it is not subject to the enhanced allergen labelling regulations and therefore should not be placed in a separate "contains" statement on the product label. However, as per general food labelling regulations, Canary seed would need to appear in the ingredient list of prepackaged multi-ingredients foods containing Canary seed.
